Mull of Galloway Lighthouse Photograph
Scottish Lighthouse Picture
This is a picture of the lighthouse, also known as a Stevenson Tower, on the Mull of Galloway. Taken from a slightly unusual angle (below rather than from above) it attempts to show the very impressive height (99 metres above sea level). Built by Robert Stevenson, the lighthouse took 2 years to build, with work commencing in 1828 and was first lit in 1830. Presently owned and managed by the Northern Lighthouse Board, it is open to the public during the British Summer months.
